Teaching Philosophy
I believe that any student can benefit from learning about and creating art. Not only do they gain artistic skills, but so many other skills that will be valuable throughout their school career and even the rest of their life. These skills include: self-expression, organization, planning, thinking outside the box, collaborating with others, and much more. As an art teacher, I hope to encourage students to develop their creativity and use passion to create something new. Helping students take pride in the work they create is an inspiration for all artists and something to strive for in an art classroom. I want to be an example of an artist in my class, inspiring students to push their thinking and creativity. I know that in working with the students, I will be inspired by them and we can learn and grow together as a class.
Art is important in schools. An art classroom holds a unique importance within the school, as it is a place where many students who struggle elsewhere can find success. As an art teacher I hope to facilitate learning and create a place where students can shine and grow as confident artists. Through connecting art to other subjects, introducing new ways of thinking and expressing themselves, students can find meaning within their work and become well-rounded adults. No matter what a student’s artistic ability is, I believe I can facilitate and support students to see the contribution of art to society, and develop opportunities to expand their thinking. As a teacher I can support their contributions by creating a positive environment that honors expression and creativity allowing students to thrive.
