Teaching Reflection- Elementary Placement
This student teaching placement was a great learning experience. I feel like I really got a great feel as to what teaching elementary art is like. I really enjoyed getting to know the students and see their creativity through their work, although I wish I could have been there longer to continue to build relationships with the students. I learned a lot about managing a classroom, transitions and students engagement. I learned the importance of planning and that having every detail planned out and organized is the best way to be prepared for a well run lesson. I learned that breaking each lesson down into specific objectives can be very helpful when pre-assessing and assessing students' understanding and to see if each part of the lesson was understood. I really enjoyed creating lessons that students would be interested in and finding ways to introduce new art skills to students. I wish I was able to improve my classroom management a bit more, especially in the beginning to continue to get better at running a classroom. Being able to work directly with my cooperating teacher and discussing students, management and lessons was very beneficial to making this a great experience.
