Creative Photo - The World Reflected
Lesson Description:
During this lesson students explored the possibilities of using mirrors and reflections in photography to create interesting compositions and add dimension to their photographs. In the beginning of the lesson, students used provided reflective objects such as mirrors, CDs, and ornaments to begin experimenting with using reflection in images through creating different compositions and capturing them with their cell phone cameras as project ideation. They then used digital cameras to capture their images, chose their best and edited them in Photoshop to enhance their visual quality. With their final images printed, students matted their images to professionally display their work.
Lesson Objectives with Aligned Standards:
Before beginning the lesson, I needed to pre-assess the students to be aware of their level of understanding to guide my instruction. For this lesson students needed to be proficient in functioning their digital cameras to be successful. I posed questions about camera functions and due to the mixed levels of understanding I adapted the lesson to include a review of effective camera use.
Assessment:
For this lesson, students were assessed on how well they met the criteria including image quality, composition and creation, craftsmanship, and artistic behavior. These criteria were measured with a point-based rubric.
